VOC Control – Reducing Harmful Emissions, Safeguarding a Healthy Environment

VOC (volatile organic compounds) are hazardous pollutants emitted from industrial processes, vehicles, paints, solvents, and similar sources. They not only cause odor, smoke, and photochemical smog, but also pose serious risks to human health.

VOC control reduces or eliminates VOC released into the atmosphere during industrial processes through technologies such as adsorption and thermal oxidation. These solutions are widely used in industries including coatings, solvents, petrochemicals, printing, and printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing.

Generation

Industrial VOCs are commonly generated from processes such as solvent evaporation, coating applications, chemical reactions, product drying, storage, and material loading and unloading.

Common industrial VOC sources include:

  • Painting and coating operations
  • Printing and laminating
  • Ink, coating, and adhesive use
  • Chemical reactors and process vents
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Resin, plastics, and rubber production
  • Solvent cleaning and degreasing

Treatment

A typical industrial VOC control system may follow:

VOC Source → Enclosure / Collection Hood → Pretreatment → VOC Control Equipment → Fan → Stack

The appropriate control technology depends on the characteristics of the exhaust stream. Complex exhaust streams may require a combination of several technologies.
